I-Cargo

Description

  • I-cargo designs and develop a cloud logistic network where the information about cargo are shared. This network is also capable of automated reactive decision making, integrate information obtained from on-going execution, processes to optimize environmental effects, real time information etc.

  • Each cargo is individually tagged and the vehicle, hubs are equipped with smart sensors which automatically updates all the information about the cargo to a cloud platform.This information is shared among the logistic operators.

  • The information in the cloud network is utilized for different logistic operations like,

  1. Collaborative planning – for pooling and sharing resources across the logistic chain

  2. Real time racking – for tracking, ETA calculation, re-routing etc.

  3. Re- planning of logistic chains by the client – for re-planning if the goal changes of events happen during execution time.

  4. Optimization of the use of resources – by pooling and resource sharing, the resources usage is optimized.

  5. Monitoring the environmental footprints – by providing smart tools and shared methodologies which calculates real time emission level.

  • This will increase the efficiency of transportation by, better fleet capacity utilization, optimal resource usage, reduction in number of travel, and lesser emissions.

Objectives

  • To synchronize vehicle movements and logistics operations across various models to lower CO2 emissions.

  • Adapt changing conditions through dynamic planning methods involving intelligent cargo, vehicle and infrastructure systems.

  • Combine services, resources and information from different stakeholders, taking part in open freight management system

PROJECT INPUT

  • Information about the cargo – the information of the cargo including date, time, shipment No., shipment method, type of cargo etc, which is used to make the cloud network. This data will utilized for different operations.

  • Smart sensors in vehicles and infrastructures – the sensors in the vehicle and infrastructure is used for real time tracking, monitoring, traffic information etc.

Assets

  • Cloud network – where all the information about the cargo is shared among the different logistic operators.

Struggle

  • Safety – the information shared in the network cloud should promise safety so that the information is not misused.

  • Monitoring the cargo information – the real time monitoring of emission and the actual coordinates of the vehicle during trip.

  • A slight mis- information about the cargo or address may be hard to find out. so the information must be always very accurate which is hard to achieve.

  • Simple – the information about all the cargos should not be in a complicated away. It should made simple and at the same time sufficient.

  • Document oriented databases are hard to develop and storage and retrieval of the same can be challenging

  • Cost – as the project include many sensors for vehicles and infrastructures the cost may go very high making it difficult to implement.

  • A cloud network - where all the information of the cargo are shared and made available for different logistic operations.
