NOVELOG

Description

  • NOVELOG project focuses to implement the effective and sustainable policies and measures for the understanding and information of freight distribution and service trips by providing guidance. The guidance will help to get the most optimal and applicable solution for the modern logistics and also will allow a collaboration between all the different stakeholders (policy makers, service providers and citizens) with field testing and transfer of best governance and business models. Along with these activities, the production of practical tools that will support the structure of NOVELOG project will be done.

  • NOVELOG project is developing four tools, addressing essential issues related to urban logistics:

  • Understanding cities (“where” and “for whom”)

  • Toolkit (“what”)

  • Evaluation (“why”)

  • Guidance (“how”)

Objectives

  • The enabling of knowledge and understanding of freight distribution and service trips by providing guidance for implementing effective and sustainable policies and measures.

  • Pilot cities will deploy live small-scale demonstration tests of policies & measures

  • Case studies cities will project, study and assess measures: Emilia Romagna Region, Gothenburg, Venice, Copenhagen, Pisa, London Borough of Barking & Dagenham.

  • Share knowledge and experience exchange activities with International parties: City of Melbourne, Road Operations, VicRoads, Victoria, Washington State Department of Transportation, The San Diego Association of Governments.

Project Inputs:

  • A communication platform between the stakeholders and cities, to get the objectives, priorities and perception and future plans regarding UFT.

  • A real time platform where all the necessary data and information will be exchanged and shared among the users as well the local authorities.

Assets:

  • The NOVELOG platform architecture will enable the ‘TOOLS’ to be hosted on a single web space where all the interested cities can use the data and tools for understanding their UFT environment, take the suitable measures and policies and get the guidance on how to implement these in the most suitable way.

  • A common dashboard which will help to obtain knowledge and compare the results between cities, through the visualization of the results of the Tools.

Struggles:

  • The whole setup is somewhat complex and the users may face difficulty while using the tools.

Project Outputs (expected):

  • Reduction of carbon footprint of logistical operations in cities by the improved understanding of cost effective strategies, measures and business model.

  • Cost and emissions benefits due to increased load factors and reduction in vehicle needs.

  • Optimized governance and the stakeholders’ cooperation in urban distribution

Improvements:

  • As this project is still not completed, very little information can be gathered at this instance from the available documents.

Pilot Cities:

Athens (Greece), Turin (Italy), Graz (Austria), Rome (Italy), Barcelona (Spain), Mechelen (Belgium)

Case Study Cities: Emila Romagna Region - Italy, Gothenburg – Sweden, Venice – Italy, Pisa – Italy, Copenhagen - Denmark, London Borough of Barking and Dagenham – UK

Status:

This project is completed on 31-May-2018.

NOVELOG has already designed the framework for data collection and analyzed this framework.
