Transformers
Description
-
In order to improve the load volume efficiency a new body for the trailer is developed to improve the aerodynamic bulkhead. Also the front and rear of which can be lowered.
-
When the load is weight limited or if the whole volume in the truck cannot be utilized, then it is possible to lower the roof of the trailer in such a way that the front part is higher than the rear. This design will result in higher aerodynamic efficiency.
-
In order to increase the energy efficiency, the drive line consists of an electric motor and generator. This is called Hybrid on Demand (HoD). The energy developed is stored in Li- ion battery.
-
The battery is charged when the vehicle brakes by regenerative braking. This energy is used when the vehicle is going up a hill or whenever supplementary electrical propulsion is needed.
Objectives
-
To improve the load efficiency of the semi- trailer trucks for long hauls.
-
To improve the fuel efficiency of semi- trailers by hybridization and improved aerodynamics.
Project Input
-
Information of the load- information of the load volume.
-
Sensors- for detecting the load volume and also for changing the roof height.
-
Lifting system for changing the height of the roof.
-
Hybrid on Demand (HoD) – for storing the energy during braking and to supplying extra propulsion when needed.
Struggle
-
Expensive – for implementing provision for height adjustment and Hybrid on Demand is expensive.
Project Output
-
3-5% better efficiency using Hybrid of Demand.
-
About 8% better efficiency with aerodynamics.
-
3-40% better efficiency by load optimization
-
25% better overall energy efficiency
