IRU e-Taxi Initiative
Description
-
This project mainly focuses on the taxis to go green which will be a perfect start to make all the taxi vehicles to go electric and give them knowledge and the best practices.
-
Taxis represent the passenger mobility by offering professional, safe, flexible and reliable services. Together with other forms of collective passenger transport they offer an attractive alternative to private car usage.
-
While environmental benefits of electric taxis are known, many taxi fleets need support in obtaining a full understanding of items such as electric car total cost of ownership.
-
IRU calls for incentives to encourage the uptake of new technologies that can help reduce road transport’s environmental footprint.
-
Such taxi fleets are important for the adoption of electro-mobility and they can actively promote further adoption of electro-mobility in many different cities.
Objective
-
We are creating a how to guide for companies exploring the integration of electric cars into their fleets.
-
We bring taxi fleets, cities, governments, electric vehicle and charging infrastructure suppliers together to share knowledge and promote best practices worldwide.
-
In partnership with all taxi stakeholders worldwide, we are paving the way towards a sustainable mobility future.
-
Immediate objectives include the production of a working document outlining a joint vision on the Taxi of the Future, with practical recommendations on how to realise this vision.
-
This will be accompanied by an action plan which will work for the period 2020-2030.
-
The initiative also seeks to provide the industry with a comprehensive study on the impact of new technologies and business models on the functioning of taxis, including future market scenarios and an online resource on best policy examples.

e-TAXI
Project Input:
-
Adaptation of all the taxi fleets to go green which changes all the taxis to go electric in the coming years.
-
Sharing all the knowledge, importance and the exchange of best practices for the usage of the e-taxis to the drivers.
-
TaxiStars is an app used for tailor-made training for taxi professionals which will be helpful for all the fleets and the companies.
Struggles:
-
Incentives offered for adoption of electric cars are often not optimised for taxi operational needs (e.g. electric charging facilities are not installed at taxi stands), thus making widespread adoption of electric taxis in cities still limited.
Project Output:
-
Taxi fleets contribute to reduction of transport related emissions, increased safety and increased mobility efficiency.
-
New technology and efficiency, reducing fuel consumption, pollution, noise and CO2 emissions and they are one of the key adopters as electric cars enter cities in force around the globe.
-
The e-Taxi Initiative are supporting taxi companies to go green by providing them best practices through a how to guide to get started with electric vehicles.
-
The I-CVUE project was started mainly for the taxi companies for the reduction of the carbon emissions for cleaner and safe environment.
Assets:
-
The UpTop global taxi network promotes legal, reliable, high quality and safe taxi services, supported by the latest smartphone technology. Here the data comes into account.
-
UpTop is a collaborative partnership between many parts of the industry to become more knowledgeable of both potential challenges and their solutions, to share best practices, and to ultimately create a better service that develops our businesses and the service we provide to our customers.
Status:
-
It is ongoing so most of the vehicles are adapting and changing to electric which will help in Go Green especially for all the taxis.
